World Health Organization award with Healthy cities status those cities, which aims to place health high on the agendas of decision makers and to promote comprehensive local strategies for health protection and sustainable development. Basic features include community participation and empowerment, intersectoral partnerships, and participant equity. Healthy cities status is given for long-term period, this year Jurmala city receives it third time from Year 2014 until 2018.
According to the data provided by the Central Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Latvia, during the first 6 months of 2014, Jūrmala has been visited by 79 284 tourists that is by 33 % or 19 604 more than in the same period of 2013. Due to the active implementation of the tourism strategy by city municipality and targeted marketing activities carried out by local tourism entrepreneurs, Jūrmala by the growth of tourist number is still ahead of the overall country by the increase of tourists.
